Check Out My 2025 Spotify Wrapped!

Yes, folks, it’s that time of year again.  It’s the time of year we all wait for.  Not because it’s Christmas or any garbage like that.  It’s time for everyone’s Spotify Wrapped.  For those who don’t know what the fuck that is, here’s the Cliff Notes answer.  Throughout the year, Spotify tracks everything you listen to, and at the end of the year, they release what they call Spotify Wrapped.

It’s quite fun because, for people like me who listen to a fuck ton of music on Spotify, we get to see just which artists we jammed the most.  There is no hiding.  There are no secrets, and if you’re worried that your friends are gonna find out that you have developed a Barry Manilow fixation, keep worrying because they will.

This year was weird, now that I got my Spotify Wrapped.  My Top Five artists this year contained no metal, and for the first time in a very long time, The Grateful Dead didn’t make my top 5.  While I was surprised, I was thrilled to see how dramatically different this year was from previous years.

===========================================

According to Spotify Wrapped,

I listened to 71,182 minutes of music (49 days).

My top 5 artists were:

  1. Roger Waters
  2. Sarah McLachlan
  3. Lara Maraqa (wesawabear)
  4. Marissa Nadler
  5. David Gilmour

According to Wrapped, my other 2025 highlights were:

January 08 – Biggest Space Music Day:

I listened to 350 minutes of “space music” and let metal make a cameo.

Late evening set off with a Bulletboys flash, then you floated for hours through “Floating Through Space,” an ambient/drone/space music playlist.  I listen to this just about every night to go to sleep/get high, so it’s no wonder it ranked so high.  By morning, Iron Maiden and Opeth cut through the haze, before Brother Hawk and Magick Brother & Mystic Sister filled the afternoon.

484 minutes
158 Tracks
116 artists.

===========================================

August 25 – Biggest Music Listening Day

The day I turned 687 minutes into a Roger Waters epic and a relaxing and chill playlist marathon.

Overnight, I drifted from Roger Waters “Speak to Me” into a marathon of ambient tracks, then let Rubber Tea and Marillion shape a progressive morning.  By evening, Roger Waters circled back for another round of epic suites.

687 minutes
200 tracks
111 artists.

===========================================

September 08 – Most Diverse Day

The day I mapped 36 genres from Gilmour to Gaga to grunge and beyond.

Morning opened with a David Gilmour suite, then spun through Rush’s prog rock, Eric Burdon’s funk detours, and a parade of classics – Bee Gees, The Doors, and Phish.  By night, the Clientelle and Nephila traded places with Janet Jackson and Guns N ‘ Roses.

492 minutes
145 tracks
73 artists.

October 11 – Repeat Heavy Day

The day I built a spiral staircase out of loops and echoes.

Late evening found you looping through the entirety of “Send a Prayer My Way by Julien Baker and TORRES, only to let Ark Patrol’s “Let Go” echo into the early morning – sometimes twice in a row, often many more.  The Beatles and Gin Blossoms made brief appearances, but repetition was the proper anchor.

387 minutes
119 plays
89 repeates.

===========================================

My Top Genres:

  1. Space Music
  2. Progressive Rock
  3. Jazz
  4. Jam Band
  5. Singer-Songwriter

===========================================

My listening age was 18.

The first time it’s been under “40” ever.

===========================================

According to Wrapped, My Top 5 Songs were:

  1. Storm – Lara Marqa (wesawabear)
  2. Who What When Where – Lara Marqa (wesawabear)
  3. Let Go – Ark Patrol
  4. Goner – Lara Marqa (wesawabear)
  5. Another Window – Lara Marqa (wesawabear)

Can you tell I listened to a lot of Lara Maraqa (wesawabear?)  Listen to her songs, and you’ll see why.

===========================================

I listened to 138 albums this year.

My Top Albums:

  1. Roger Waters – This is Not a Drill (Live from Prague)
  2. Roger Waters – The Dark Side of the Moon
  3. David Gilmour – Luck and Strange
  4. Sarah McLachlan – Better Broken
  5. Marissa Nadler – New Radiations

Apparently, I was also the 2,859th most-listened-to Roger Waters fan globally.  Who knew?

===========================================

I streamed 327 minutes of Podcasts.

My top podcast: Hair Metal Memories

Conclusion:

Wow, 2025 was definitely a surprise for me to see these stats.  I also take into account that I listened to a shit ton of music on vinyl this year, definitely more than previous years, so maybe this year I will track my vinyl listening?

So much great music filled my ears and got me through many, many ups and downs.  Music, as always, was my faithful companion and guided me through the dark, the rugged terrain, and floated me out of it all when I needed it to.  What a great gift.

How was YOUR Spotify Wrapped this year?  I’d love to see your Top 5 artists and Top 5 albums.
