In 1992, I saw my first Ugly Kid Joe at the Masquerade in Atlanta. What does this have to do with anything? Well, that night in Atlanta, their opening act absolutely floored me with a sound that was dark, gritty, fun, and sleazy all in one package (and sometimes at the same time). That band was Seattle’s War Babies. War Babies had released their first video “Hang Me Up” which was the first single from their self-titled debut album and the song was just massive. After relentless touring in a time where the music climate was doing a full 180, War Babies had plans to go in and record a followup album. While there was some material written and recorded for that, War Babies were dropped by their label in 1993 and broke up not long after.
A mix of `70s bands such as: Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, KISS, etc. with a dash of punk, and a bit of so-called “Grunge” (something the War Babies guys all had a hand in helping invent in the late `70s and early `80s), War Babies music still holds up very well as no-bullshit, ballsy hard rock. And now after all this time, there is more to be heard! When I was contacted by former War Babies vocalist Brad Sinsel about helping them put together the liner notes and doing interviews for the preparation of this release, I was beyond honored. Here’s a band that I have loved and been a fan of since I was in high school and here I am, a part of the team of extremely great people who made the release of this album of unreleased material manifest from an idea and a dream into reality.
