Black Crowes Vocalist Responds to Making Tampa MAGAs Cry

The opening night of the Black Crowes‘ Southern Hospitality tour  (with Whiskey Myers) in Tampa, FL on May 31st didn’t go without a hitch.  Hell, it wouldn’t be a fucking Black Crowes show if it went smooth as silk, now would it?

During the band’s performance, their now iconic “Uncle Sam Crowe” image made an appearance behind the stage, the Red Hat Mafia started chanting, “USA!  USA!  USA!”  Vocalist Chris Robinson quickly shot back saying,

“Thanks for the geography lesson. I don’t know what you’re so proud of right now. Some of us have real faith. For those of you fucking booing us, some of us are not afraid. And we most assuredly are not fucking ignorant.”

The Red Hat party formerly known for saying “fuck your feelings” got their feelings fucked pretty badly as people started to leave the venue shouting obscenities, flipping the bird at the band, and crying all over the internet about it.  “Meanie Cwith Wobbinthon Thay Bad Things About ‘Murica.”

In the wake of the MAGA backlash, Chris Robinson talked with Ultimate Classic Rock this week to address it.

“I think the whole thing was, of course, blown out of context so people can get clicks and people can stir up the animosity,” he said.

“But be most assured — in a week, something else will come up that stirs up the hornets’ nest.” He was also careful to draw a distinction between his broader outlook and any perceived slight toward the military. “No matter what I ever would say or do or feel about things, there’s no way I would disrespect our veterans,” Robinson said.

“For the people who’ve put their lives on the line and made that sacrifice and dedication, I wouldn’t do that. But I have to speak my mind. I don’t have an agenda or anything — I’m just trying to make a soulful connection with people.”

The Black Crowes are currently out on their Southern Hospitality Tour with co-headliners Whiskey Myers supporting their latest album, A Pound of Feathers.  In my opinion, it’s the best thing they’ve done since 1994’s Amorica.
