Jess and The Ancient Ones’ Thomas Corpse Unveils New Project Pääkallo with Debut Single, “Kuoleman Taikaa”

Finnish Occult Rockers Jess and the Ancient Ones released their 4th studio album this year, Vertigo, to rave reviews from both music critics and fans. Not one to sit on his hands and do nothing, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, JATAO guitarist/songwriter Thomas Corpse has unveiled a new project called Pääkallo. The following was a press release from Finland so I had to translate it to English (thanks Google Translate!).

Pääkallo is a band founded at the turn of the decade, whose mission is to bring the mystical tones familiar mainly from the underground of international metal to the Finnish classical iron wire and rock tradition. The band, whose lineup includes familiar players from Deathchain, Jess and the Ancient One and Cosmo Jones Beat Machine, will release their first single, “Kuoleman Taikaa” (The Magic of Death), through Svart Records in the fall.

“Kuoleman Taikaa” is the first song written for the Skull that, when born, also laid the foundation for the entire orchestra’s existence. This is, I think, a perfect example of our sound, in which the filthy lyrics carry dense songs filled with small melodies. Of course, you can hear from there that, for example, the stuff of the 60s is close to the heart, especially the curiosities of the garage and psych rock department. In the same spirit, we will continue with our upcoming album, which Svart Records will release next autumn,” states Tommi Hoffrén, who is responsible for writing both the music and lyrics.
