Chris Cornell’s Daughter, Lily Cornell Silver, Hosts Mental Health Interview Series, Mind Wide Open.

Lily Cornell Silver lost her father, music icon Chris Cornell, to suicide in 2017. Cornell’s autopsy report said toxicology tests detected lorazepam, which is used to treat anxiety and sold as Ativan; pseudoephedrine, a decongestant; naloxone, used to counter effects of opioids; butalbital, a sedative, and caffeine in his system. But the report revealed the drugs “did not contribute to the cause of death.”

Lily was about 14 years old at the time, and I can’t even begin to imagine how hard it was to not only have a father in the spotlight but to have to see his life come to such an unfortunate end.  At 18 years old now, Lilly has launched her own interview video/audio podcast where she openly discusses mental health with various guests, including Heart’s Ann Wilson, Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, and mental health professionals such as Dr. Robin Stern and Dr. Michael Friedman.

I learned about this podcast via a post on the music new site Blabbermouth, and the post featured Lily’s video interview with Heart’s Ann Wilson.  In the interview, Lily and Ann discuss the challenging mental health triggers, primarily the focus on Ann’s physical appearance and body shaming.  I was shocked by the left comments, which ranged from criticizing Ann’s choice of glasses to talking about her body.  While those user comments disappointed me, this one stood out to me the most:

“So they picked a senior citizen and a kid who isn’t even old enough to drink for a hot take on this “controversial” issue?

First off, no one “picked” them.  Lily did this on her own and she picked Ann Wilson as a guest.  This is one of the many things that intensify the stigma of mental health.  Mental Health knows now age, gender, sexual preference, or anything. As a person who deals with mental health daily, I was uplifted and proud that ANYONE is talking about this openly but even more uplifted and proud to see a young person taking this subject on.  Lily is a wise young person who understands the importance of mental health awareness and I absolutely love her interviews.  Please give this show a watch and spread the word.  Lily’s off to an amazing start.
