Marillion Kicks Off Their “Couch Convention” Today!

For Marillion fans, its Christmas Day. Today begins a three-day musical pilgrimage of all things Marillion – thanks to living in the day and age of science and technology, we get our Convention but at home.

Due to Covid we don’t get our Christmas shows nor the 2021 Convention. God Bless Marillion for organizing a “Couch Convention” beginning today, Friday, September 4 through Sunday, September 6. Just like their bi-annual Convention, every day is chock full of fan-oriented activities including direct contact with band members culminating in a performance. Link to overview of the abundance of activities: https://www.marillionweekend.com/athome/main/. They have already kept us busy during this pandemic with Friday night Q&A sessions with a different member each week, pub quizzes on Saturdays, etc.

Come join in the festivities…even just a check-in. For those who have not attended a Convention, there is no greater fan event!

A bit more info… They have a direct relationship with their fanbase and have been DIY since 1997 when a stateside fan organized a touring fund (of course I contributed $150) to bring them across the Atlantic for a North American tour. Since, Marillion have made this crowdsourcing model a success with a direct relationship with the fans not only to record the next record, but by way of 3-4 day convention experiences. We all gather (about 3500 from around the globe) for a weekend retreat of multiple live shows, interactive experiences with the band, museums, MERCH!, pub quizzes, even a 10K, all onsite and for the fans. For the past decade they have increased the bi-annual convention to be in multiple countries – 2019 saw FIVE events!  Port Zelande, Netherlands (the primary weekend), then Poland, Leicester UK, Montreal Canada, and finally Lisbon Portugal. All were sold out to adoring fans.
