The Great Southern Brainfart Turns 13!

I know I’m a month late but the Great Southern Brainfart is celebrating Lucky #13.  13 years old!  That’s longer than I’ve been doing anything besides being married.  It’s so hard to believe that I’ve been doing this fucking thing for 13 years I have made some great friends, great enemies, enemies that became friends and friends that became enemies.  I’ve covered well over 100 shows, and just as many, if not more, interviews.  I have met Alice Cooper, I’ve become good friends with Graveyard and Jess & The Ancient Ones, and I became BFFs with Tesla vocalist Jeff Keith.   I have been mentored by one of my biggest writing inspirations, Katherine Turman.  I have written a book and talked to everyone from Anthrax to Zebra and all in between.

My very first post was in August of 2016.  It was a review of a Poison/Cinderella concert in Raleigh, NC.   When I posted that first post, I had no idea that this site would grow wings and breath of fire and take off like it did.  No, my numbers aren’t in the thousands like other bigger sites but over the years I have seen many blogs come and go.  I have always been dedicated to this site to bring my own opinionated reviews, essays, and straight forward interviews.  Over 13 years, I went from having 3 views a day to have over 500 a day posting mostly original content.   I also went from having nobody giving a ratt’s ass about what I was posting to having a very dedicated cult following that is always supporting me and rooting me on.  They are engaging and they are always inspiring me to keep on moving forward.

Another thing that keeps doing this fun is when someone gets turned onto a new band.  A few years ago, I text message from the now defunct band, Gypsyhawk.  The member texted me and told me that these two kids approached them and told them that they had heard of them from my site.  I can’t think of a bigger compliment and it’s moments like that that keep me doing this.

I’ve been praised, I’ve been booed; I’ve been high fived and I’ve even been threatend with bodily harm.  Is it worth it?  You better believe it.  Over the past 13 years, I’d like to think that this site has grown by leaps and bounds and that I have become a better, more confident writer and interviewer.   While the site sometimes seems to be slow because life can get in the way, I am never far behind.  I will always be here and I have no plans of calling it quits.

Huge thanks to all of my dedicated readers, friends, family, photographer Emily Harris, and awesome contributing writers Evil Eric and Taylor the Terror!  You all have been HUGE assets to this journey and you all just make the site that much better.

Here’s to another 13 years y’all… for better or for worse, I’m not going anywhere!
