Artists Poll: What was your first concert, and what song do you wish you had written yourself?

Jubelnde Konzertbesucher auf Rock-KonzertHowdy Fartheads! I thought it had been way too long since the last time time I did an artist poll so I thought, “What the fuck? Let’s do this again!” I reached out to my rock god friends and asked them to answer two simple questions: “What was your first concert?” and “What song do you wish you had written?” It was really fun to see all the different answers that they had to share and I thought you all would enjoy it just as much! How would YOU answer these questions? Feel free to answer them yourself in the comments section. I’m sure everyone else would love to see them!

Bill Lonero – LoNero

What was the first concert you ever attended?
AC/DC with Yngwie Malmsteen opening at the Oakland Coliseum

What is one song that every time you hear it you say ‘I wish I wrote that song’?
“My Way” by Frank Sinatra.

Erik Kluiber – Gypsyhawk

What was the first concert you ever attended?
Metallica w/ the Cult opening on the
and justice for all tour 1989.

What is one song that every time you hear it you say ‘I wish I wrote that song’?
“Who Stopped The Rain” by Credence Clearwater Revival because it’s beautiful and I’d be rich.

Jeremy Adams – Gnomonaut

What was the first concert you ever attended?
Van Halen – last tour with David Lee Roth, 1985?

What is one song that every time you hear it you say ‘I wish I wrote that song’?
“Echoes” by Pink Floyd. Such a classic progression, and yet it somehow captures the feelings of darkness and hope all at once.

Andrew Packer – Gypsyhawk

What was the first concert you ever attended?
MC Hammer w/ Boys 2 Men, TLC, Jodeci in 1992 at Irvine meadows, now Verizon wireless amphitheater. I think I wanted to be a rapper. I was 9 and hammer was king of the world.

What is one song that every time you hear it you say ‘I wish I wrote that song’?
“Freya” by The Sword because they’re the only successful operating band that I would be proud to be in. That song came at a time when I was influenced by the right elements to have written something similar.

Rain Irving – While Heaven Wept

What was the first concert you ever attended?
Metallica w/ Queensryche on the
and justice for all tour in Greensboro, NC. I was more impacted by the opening act. When Queensryche performed “Take Hold of the Flame” I decided then that I wanted to be a real singer.

What is one song that every time you hear it you say ‘I wish I wrote that song’?
“Woman” by John Lennon . Not sure why I dig the tune as it’s somewhat boring, but damn the bass line is sweet! Likewise I dig the little “single note” guitar picking during the chorus.

Andy Sanford – Telestrion

What was the first concert you ever attended?
KISS/Pat Travers/Kick Axe, The Omni, Atlanta, GA, 12-26-83. That show changed my life in more ways than I could probably remember.

What is one song that every time you hear it you say ‘I wish I wrote that song’?
“Itchycoo Park” by The Small Faces. I wish I could simultaneously reach that mix of happy, poppy, druggy, subversive, and psychedelic like they did with that song.

===================================

Joe Carpenter – Volume IV

What was the first concert you ever attended?
KISS Dynasty tour at The Omni in Atlanta. New England was the opener.

What is one song that every time you hear it you say ‘I wish I wrote that song’?
“Spiral Architect” by Black Sabbath. I’d say the reason speaks for itself.

===================================

Jeromy Dooyema – Gnomonaut

What was the first concert you ever attended?
Iron Maiden with Megadeth (was supposed to be GnR but Axl’s voice was f’d up) at the old Met stadium in Minneapolis. Having never been to a big show like that, it was the epitome of rock and roll for me.

What is one song that every time you hear it you say ‘I wish I wrote that song’?
Probably tons of different songs, one that came to mind “Hands All Over” by Soundgarden. Heavy and psychedelic!
