Album Review: Mustasch – Sounds Like Hell, Looks Like Heaven

MustaschMustasch – Sounds Like Hell, Looks Like Heaven
Release Date: February 26, 2013

I really had no idea what to expect when being asked to check out the latest 2012 release from Mustache. When I saw they were from Sweden, I figured that they’d have to kick ass. I mean, c’mon. This is where Graveyard is from right? Well, I was barely 30 seconds into their opening track “Speed Metal” when I realized that I loved what I was hearing. With its clear yet bombastic production, Sounds Like Hell, Looks Like Heaven is solid dose of melody, harmonies, and balls to the wall heaviness. This was an album that with each passing song I felt drawn in. Mustache officially had my attention and kept it for the duration of this platter of kick ass.

Sounds Like Hell, Looks Like Heaven took me on quite a sonic ride as they channel both the eclectic and the psychedelic. At times I hear Black Sabbath, at times I hear Soundgarden, and at times I hear The Cult in songs like “The Challenger” and “Cold Heart Mother Son.” Then again, I hear some Witchcraft mixed with Danzig on the kick ass track “It’s Never Too Late.” Sounds Like Hell, Looks Like Heaven is without a doubt one of the most fun, versatile, metal albums I have heard in a long time. Each song is as fun and exciting as the previous one and it was an album that I felt completely connected to. The songs are well written and delivered with passion, fire, and a self proclaimed love of metal. Sounds Like Hell, Looks Like Heaven actually sounds like Heaven to me.
