Los Angeles based Rival Sons recently released their 2nd album titled “Pressure & Time” and once again I have managed to find an album that I cannot stop listening to.  Much like classic albums by Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin, the album was written, recorded, and mixed in a short amount of time (just 20 days).  This blows my mind because as opposed to sounding rushed, it sounds like a carefully thought out and executed plan to rock your face.

“Pressure & Time” is 30 minutes of in your face classic rock and roll that hits you like a freight train and before you know what hit you it’s all done.  No self indulgent extended jamming will be found on this album and if you’re looking for a pretty, overproduced glossy album, move along son.  What you’ll get is lead vocalist/songwriter Jay Buchanan stepping up to the microphone and singing like his last living day with a commanding voice that is like the love child of Steve Tyler and Robert Plant.  The songwriting and delivery is strong and full of grit, attitude and hunger that so many bands seem to lack these days.

Rival Sons have released a mighty fine collection of songs that sounds just like what a rock n roll record should sound like.  “Pressure & Time” is raw, sincere and down right nasty.  There’s no slick production, no studio magic and no goddamn autotuned vocals.  It’s one of those records that just forces you to make a “stank face” as they rip your face off one song after the other.  One may hear “Pressure & Time” and say that it’s nothing new or original and they would be correct in saying so. Rival Sons aren’t out to re-invent the wheel or break new ground.  They are simply reminding everyone just why people feel in love with rock n’ roll so many years ago.
