Today We Lost The Greatest. Ronnie James Dio Dead At Age 67.

It is with sadness in my heart and tears in my eyes (literally) that I share the news that Heavy Metal God Ronnie James Dio has lost his battle to cancer at the age of 67.  Wendy Dio posted via Dio’s official website:

Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.

I am at a loss here and while I mourn his loss, I am glad that he went peacefully and that he is no longer suffering.  The Dragon may have won the battle but it didn’t defeat him.  Dio leaves behind a musical legacy that has and will always stand the test of time.  He has been and always will be held in the highest regard by fans and peers and the world just won’t be the same without him.  Today, we lost a legend, a friend and our King!  Nobody will ever come close to reigning supreme and with that I say LONG LIVE ROCK & ROLL AND LONG LIVE RONNIE JAMES DIO!

I will write more this week but for now, I will reminisce, call a friend and know that the music will never die!
