Somewhere in St. Louis, two guys are making a shit ton of noise and it’s really blowing my mind that I have yet to hear word one about these guys. Normally, when someone tells me to check out this new band that’s a duo (guitar/drums), the first thing I am compelled to do is roll my eyes and write them off as some sort of bullshit hipster band. Well, let me tell you boys and girls, that is far from the case when it comes to Dibiase.

Their latest album, When Everything Means Nothing, is the perfect soundtrack to just about doing anything. Washing your car, working on that article deadline, to bong rips after a long day, When Everything Means Nothing is the perfect soundtrack. The opening song, Mind That Found the Future kicks in sounding more like a Crowbar song and then all of the sudden throws you a curveball as it steers into a very melodic Joe Satriani vibe. “The Beard Remains the Same” runs neck and neck with any of Corrosion of Conformity’s best material while “Witchcasket” boasts a Danzig influence to it.

When Everything Means Nothing is an album that I listened to with ease three times back to back. It’s almost as if they took some of my favorite metal bands, added a hint of early 90’s alternative/grunge, threw it into a blender and made one gut wrenching, ass kicking smoothie. Being that it’s instrumental music, it really does serve as such a great “background” album but the thing is that the songs are so well composed and excellently executed that it’s also an album that deserves your full attention.

Here’s the deal. Dibiase is a great fucking band and while I’m sure I’m not the first person to say this, i’m going to say it now: GET A FUCKING LEAD SINGER GUYS! Why do I say this? I say this because these songs are so good that I feel with the appropriate singer and lyrics as well crafted as these songs, Dibiase could very well turn many more heads and see themselves ascending to a whole new level of greatness. Who am I to say all this though? This is just my opinion and maybe they’re happy where they are. If that’s the case, then so be it but do yourself a favor and check this band out. They may not be saying anything vocally but musically they’ve got plenty to say.
