While 3 Inches of Blood is a new name for me, it’s a sound that’s oh so familiar. Hearing 3 Inches of Blood for the first time is similar to when you catch a whiff of something, a smell that reminds you of a time long ago and triggers a fond memory. I was teleported back to the days of denim jackets covered in patches and buttons, Friday nights as a loner kid in my room immersing myself in all the Metal bands that were my “friends.” You know the ones who were there for me and understood me.

Canada’s own 3 Inches of Blood took the stage looking like Vikings storming out of Valhalla. Lead Singer Cam Pipes took the stage and lifted his microphone stand in the air as the crowd roared with hands and fists in the air. It was almost as if Cam was addressing his army of Vikings as the band launched into “Battles and Brotherhood” from their latest album “Here Waits They Doom” and the crowd went ape shit. I was completely floored by the old school sound of these guys but it was Pipe’s voice that really blew my mind. He sounds like a cross between Rob Halford and King Diamond while looking like Captain Caveman! It’s like three awesome things that go even more awesome together. Drummer Ash Pearson played with all the groove and subtle intensity of Bill Ward with bassist Steve Ericksson channeling Geezer Butler. The twin guitar attack of Justin Hagberg and Shane Clark was that of face melting proportions that hearkened back to their classic NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) roots. So much so that at times had me pumping my fist in the air and screaming with approval. Hell, I pretty much just slammed my hand on the desk just remembering what an amazing performance these guys delivered.

Lead vocalist Cam Pipes led his comrades through a blistering set comprised mostly of material from “Here Waits Thy Doom” such as “Silent Killer” & “Call of the Hammer” but it was the set closing “The Goatrider’s Horde” where the band went out swords flailing to prove themselves mighty! 3 Inches of Blood is another great example of a band that you can miss if you blink. How these guys went under my radar for so long is beyond me. For the longest time I figured that White Wizzard were going to be the almighty saviors of the classic Metal sound. I should probably contact them and tell them to hand over the crown and scepter to 3 Inches of Blood.

3 Inches Of Blood – Silver Star Stage

Battles and Brotherhood
Silent Killer
Trial of Champions
Swordmaster
Call of the Hammer
Deadly Sinners
The Goatrider’s Horde

CHECK OUT THE REST OF MY MAYHEM EXPERIENCE

Mayhem In Atlanta Pt.
