This had little to no effect on California’s In The Moment as they took the stage to a packed crowd. The band opened with the blistering “Just Drive” from their latest album “A Star-Crossed Wasteland.” Opening with a brand new song from an album that’s only been out a couple of weeks is pretty ambitious but the song and the band were met with a huge blast of enthusiasm. In This Moment was truly in their element playing to this feverish crowd of Metalers as bodies were past around and tossed over the barricade like lambs being brought to the slaughter. The band went right into another new tune called “Blazin'” which just seemed to whip the crowd into a frenzy even more. In This Moment were obviously loving the reaction they were getting from the crowd and continued to push harder as if to challenge the audience to give them all they had. The set boasted some really awesome songs from “A Star-Crossed Wasteland” and as the band offered up the title track from their debut “Beautiful Tragedy” it was met with a roar of approval and even more energy from the crowd.

Guitarists Chris Howorth playfully teased the crowd and egged them on by making faces and song after song ripping their heads off with some impressive and melodic lead solos while rhythm guitarist Blake Bunzel, bassist Kyle Konkiel and drummer Jeff Fabb locked in together to create a wall of fat sounding, melodic Metal that served as the very backbone to singer Maria Brink’s melodic vocals mixed with Metalcore screams. The band ripped into “The Gun Show” which is the first single from “A Star-Crossed Wasteland” and this tune had everybody jumping in unison. The pit seemed to grow as the song climbed and grew with intensity. The band closed out their all too short 30 minute set with the “Beautiful Tragedy” song “Daddy’s Falling Angel” during which singer Maria Brink commanded the audience to start a circle pit around the soundboard as she jumped in the audience to sing the song from the very place they would all be moshing. It was like seeing her in the eye of a storm as the huge crowd of people formed a circle pit and did as commanded to do to bring their set to a close.

I was reminded as to just how great In This Moment are as a live band. They know how to work a crowd and how to take ownership of the stage. In This Moment didn’t just set the bar for the rest of the day but they pretty much took the fucking bar and said, “Bring your own fucking bar, this one belongs to us!” The new material from “A Star-Crossed Wasteland” proved to stand the test of this brutal crowd and got the seal of approval without a doubt. Not only has In This Moment delivered what I feel to be one of the years best albums, they also delivered a live set that left a huge mark and proved to all that they are a band that has their best days ahead of them. This band is a growing force that just continues to build as they roll from town to town and I can’t wait to see just where they go from here. There’s nothing better than watching a band grow right before your very eyes and hearing them grow before your ears as well.

In This Moment – Silver Star Stage

Just Drive
Blazin’
Beautiful Tragedy
Iron Army
The Gun Show
Daddy’s Falling Angel

CHECK OUT THE REST OF MY MAYHEM EXPERIENCE

Mayhem In Atlanta Pt.
