{"id":20134,"date":"2022-02-25T11:02:18","date_gmt":"2022-02-25T16:02:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.southeastofheaven.com\/?p=20134"},"modified":"2022-02-25T11:32:17","modified_gmt":"2022-02-25T16:32:17","slug":"album-review-children-of-the-sun-roots","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.southeastofheaven.com\/?p=20134","title":{"rendered":"Album Review: Children of the Sun &#8211; Roots"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since 2019, <strong>Children of the Sun<\/strong> has grown by leaps and bounds.\u00a0 Their live performances are electrifying and full of energy, soul, and fire from within that I love seeing from a band.\u00a0 In 2022, Children of the Sun began trickling singles from the forthcoming sophomore album <em>Roots<\/em>, which will be released on March 18<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 I can say without a single doubt that this album will give every release this year a serious run for their money.<\/p>\n<p>On <em>Roots<\/em>, their original 60s hippie mentality is still there in songs \u00a0like \u201cGaslighting,\u201d \u201cLeaves,\u201d and the haunting vocal\/choir closing track \u201cEpilogue.\u201d\u00a0 This element of Children of the Sun first drew me in and made me a fan.\u00a0 That being said, Roots finds Children of the Sun shedding its skin and adopting a much darker, mature nature without altogether abandoning their \u201croots.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Roots <\/em>explores a heavier, darker influence from bands like Rival Sons and the Black Crowes both lyrically and musically.\u00a0 The opening track, \u201cReflection,\u201d is a dark, moody song that sets the mood for the rest of the album.\u00a0 I love that they kicked things off with a song like this instead of coming out of the gates, guns blazing with volume.<\/p>\n<p>Children of the Sun also explores the influence of 60s\/70s folk influences like Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell with songs like \u201cEden,\u201d \u201cWillow Tree,\u201d and \u201cIn Silva,\u201d capping it off with edgier rockers like the title tracks, \u201cThunder.\u201d However, my personal favorite is \u201cBlood Boils Hot.\u201d\u00a0 This song is a powerful, psychedelic, haunting\u00a0 tribute to our Mother Earth and even seems to dabble a bit into the world of psychedelics as a way to connect with the Earth.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0In this song, I feel that lead vocalist Josefina Berglund Ekholm truly shines and shows her dynamic, soulful, and powerful ability.\u00a0 She has a truly distinct voice that I think has solidified as one of the best of the genre.<\/p>\n<p><em>Roots <\/em>is a remarkable album by a band that continues to grow personally, musically, and lyrically.\u00a0 It is an album for the heart, the soul, and the mind.\u00a0 It\u2019s a sonic psychedelic journey that explores the depths of humanity and dark yet optimistic observations of the world as if looking inward from the cosmos.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the best albums I\u2019ve ever heard are actually quite hard to put to words just how fantastic they are.\u00a0 <em>Roots <\/em>is one of those albums.\u00a0 While I struggled to put to words how much I love <em>Roots<\/em>, I could talk about how much it has moved me all day long.\u00a0 <em>Roots <\/em>is an album that everyone should have in their collection, and if you don\u2019t, you\u2019re just dumb.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"CHILDREN OF THE S\u00dcN - LEAVES (Official Audio)\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/whzDdlOmD5g?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since 2019, Children of the Sun has grown by leaps and bounds.\u00a0 Their live performances are electrifying and full of energy, soul, and fire from within that I love seeing from a band.\u00a0 In 2022, Children of the Sun began trickling singles from the forthcoming sophomore album Roots, which will be released on March 18th.\u00a0 I can say without a single doubt that this album will give every release this year a serious run for their money.
