{"id":19059,"date":"2020-10-08T11:18:35","date_gmt":"2020-10-08T15:18:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southeastofheaven.com\/?p=19059"},"modified":"2022-01-06T19:47:48","modified_gmt":"2022-01-07T00:47:48","slug":"19059","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.southeastofheaven.com\/?p=19059","title":{"rendered":"Album Review: Magick Brother, Mystic Sister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>2020 has been the most insane fucking year.\u00a0 So much shit has happened that we never thought we would see.\u00a0 From a full-blown pandemic to a fly on our vice president\u2019s head becoming a viral sensation (no pun intended), it\u2019s enough to make me want to throw my hands up and cash in my chips.\u00a0 Luckily, as always, music comes through and offers me some sweet relief, and this time it came in the form of <strong>Magick Brother, Mystic Sister<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Magick Brother, Mystic Sister<\/strong> came out of nowhere with their debut album in 2020 and it is an album that has captured my attention and intrigued me.\u00a0 Hailing from Spain, Magick Brother, Mystic Sister is a mysterious band.\u00a0 There is very little information about them on the web and even their social media presence is sparse and, again, mysterious.<\/p>\n<p>As with previous bands I have fallen in love with, I discovered them on the \u201cfans also like\u201d link on Spotify.\u00a0 The opening song \u201cUtopia\u201d is an instrumental that very well could be from a Blacksploitation film or modernly a movie like <em>Ocean\u2019s Eleven<\/em>.\u00a0 The song segues into \u201cWaterforms.\u201d\u00a0 I was already pulled in immediately but \u201cWaterforms\u201d secured its grasp on me with the lush female vocals of Eva Muntada and the hypnotic flute playing of Maya Fernandez.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Magick brother &amp; Mystic sister  -  Utopia\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2XP5YHro6XE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I feared that this album very well could be front-loaded with the best material at the start of the album but I couldn\u2019t be any farther from the truth.\u00a0 Each song was a cosmic voyage all it\u2019s own and because of the perfect sequencing of the songs, it plays out like a musically conceptual journey of the body and the senses.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s hard not to be over cosmic while describing this album but it\u2019s damn near impossible.\u00a0 <strong>Magick Brother, Mystic Sister<\/strong> seems to have pulled from various styles of music such as progressive, krautrock, San Francisco psych rock, and \u201860s\/\u201970s music.\u00a0 The songs all seem to have an amazingly free flow to them as if they are just pulling the songs out of the air but at the same time, it isn\u2019t sloppy or choppy like full-on improvisation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Magick Brother, Mystic Sister<\/strong> is a band to look out for and to welcome into your collection now.\u00a0 The music of Magick Brother, Mystic Sister is the sound of the past moving us into the future.\u00a0 I guess I could say they are attempting to take us back to the future so to speak.\u00a0 In these chaotic, surreal, and beyond depressing times filling us all with anxiety, Magick Brother, Mystic Sister is the soundtrack we all need to disconnect from it all and for just 46 minutes venture off to another plane where nothing resides but thought, peace, and tranquility.\u00a0 Trust me, it\u2019s a great place and I plan on visiting it many more times.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Facebook: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/magickbrother_mysticsister-1293033870845224\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/magickbrother_mysticsister-1293033870845224\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Magick Brother, Mystic Sister are:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Eva Muntada: piano, synthesizers, organ, mellotron &amp; vocals<br \/>\nXavi Sandoval: bass &amp; guitars<br \/>\nMarc Tena: drums &amp; vocals<br \/>\nMaya Fern\u00e1ndez: flute<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2020 has been the most insane fucking year.\u00a0 So much shit has happened that we never thought we would see.\u00a0 From a full-blown pandemic to a fly on our vice president\u2019s head becoming a viral sensation (no pun intended), it\u2019s enough to make me want to throw my hands up and cash in my chips.\u00a0 Luckily, as always, music comes through and offers me some sweet relief, and this time it came in the form of Magick Brother, Mystic Sister.
