At 45 years old (as of this story), I\u2019ve seen so many legendary musicians just pass us by for the other side.\u00a0 We\u2019ve lost Ronnie James Dio, we have Judas Priest\u2019s Glenn Tipton battling Parkinson\u2019s disease, and we lost Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell to depression\/suicide.\u00a0 My heroes are not getting any younger so it\u2019s been my mission to catch as many legendary performers as I can while they\u2019re still alive.\u00a0 Alice Cooper, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden; these are all bands that while still on top of their game could very well leave us at any point in the near future.\u00a0 This is why it was my desire to see the legendary Glenn Hughes.<\/p>\n

Deep Purple was a band that I never really got into but late in my mid 30\u2019s, my buddy Chris told me, \u201cMan, if you don\u2019t like Deep Purple, I get it but you need to Deep Purple Mark III and IV.\u201d\u00a0 He knew that I\u2019m a huge Coverdale so I took his word and gave them a spin.\u00a0 Hearing Burn, Stormbringer, and Come Taste the Band absolutely changed my life but it was the voice of Glenn Hughes that completely blew my mind.\u00a0 That voice.\u00a0 If you\u2019re a fan, you know what I\u2019m talking about.\u00a0 All I could do was hope to someday see him live.<\/p>\n

Since then, I backtracked on his solo career, Trapeze, and even his Black Country Communion stuff.\u00a0 Unfortunately, he never ended up in Atlanta while Chris saw him a zillion times in Virginia.\u00a0 Well, the planets finally aligned and Glenn was finally coming back to Atlanta after what seemed like a lifetime and this was a show I was not going to miss.<\/p>\n

Glenn is out on the road for his Glenn Hughes Plays the Music of Deep Purple tour and I was absolutely beside myself day of the show.\u00a0 The audience at Center Stage Theater was just as I imagined it would be: mostly big, older men; some with long hair and some with none at all donning Deep Purple shirts and poorly made Glenn Hughes bootlegged shirts.\u00a0 The vibe was definitely a good one I could tell this was going to be a special show.<\/p>\n

With no shitty opening act to have to sit through, Hughes cut straight to the chase.\u00a0 The house lights went down and over the PA various newscasts and what were all playing and then all of the sudden, the voice of his former partner in crime Jon Lord says, \u201cLadies and gentlemen, Glenn Hughes.\u201d\u00a0 Glenn took to the stage and without wasting any time kicked right into \u201cStormbringer\u201d which had everyone going crazy.<\/p>\n
