<span class=\"content-media__credit\"> \u2013The History Channel \/ Screenshot <\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content-text content-text-article\">\n<p>A piece of rock \u2018n\u2019 roll history involving Boston band Aerosmith has been found on the other side of Massachusetts.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/shows\/american-pickers\/season-19\/episode-13\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a recently aired episode<\/a> of the hit History Channel show, \u201cAmerican Pickers,\u201d hosts and antique scavengers Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz tracked down the band\u2019s original tour van in Chesterfield that the group used to schlep to gigs around New England in the early 1970s.<\/p>\n<p>Not much was initially known about the rusted, 1964 International Harvester Metro van, buried in the woods, said the property\u2019s owner, identified only as Phil, who told Wolfe and Fritz the vehicle was there when he bought the land.<\/p>\n<p>The previous property owner had a connection to the band, he said, but it was unclear if the van had ever been used by the group.<\/p>\n<p>Finding out would require a first-hand witness: Ray Tabano, a founding Aerosmith member and guitarist.<\/p>\n<p>In the episode, which aired July 30, Wolfe reached out to a friend, Dan Auerbach, of The Black Keys, who in turn sent along photos of the van to Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry.<\/p>\n<p>Tabano, in Stockbridge when the pickers were inspecting the van, said he made his way over after getting a call from Perry and confirmed the van\u2019s authenticity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m afraid to say how long it is, but it\u2019s been like 40 years since we\u2019ve been in this thing,\u201d Tabano told Phil, Wolfe, and Fritz, and even showed them a photo of himself in the vehicle taken back in its heyday.<\/p>\n<p>Tabano, who was in the band from 1970 to 1972 before working for the group later on, said the van was like a \u201crolling hotel\u201d in the future Rock and Roll Hall of Famers\u2019 early days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019d drive from Boston up to New Hampshire for $125,\u201d he said, referring to the pay for the band\u2019s gigs at the time. \u201cThen after the gas, the tolls, and the food and back, we\u2019d all make like $3 apiece.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The van sold for considerably more than that, however, with Wolfe and Fritz picking it up from Phil for $25,000, according to the episode (which also flashed a glimpse of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/news\/politics\/2012\/03\/12\/charlie-baker-rock-roll-roots-get-affirmation-minutes-aerosmith-piece\/fao8VPdhDPBMSPsqEm3ZnJ\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">now iconic photo<\/a> of a young Charlie Baker rocking out at an Aerosmith show in 1979).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt just reminded me of the humble beginnings and I look at where (the band has) gone today \u2014 it\u2019s just amazing,\u201d Tabano said of the van.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From www.boston.com By: Christopher Gavin The original Aerosmith tour van was located in Chesterfield and was featured on a recent episode of the History Channel show, &#8220;American Pickers.&#8221;
