Hey Fartheads! Dig this. Every month this year I will randomly choose a Farthead of the Month. I have some truly awesome, dedicated, and awesome readers and I consider you all friends. Anyways, every month I am going to randomly choose a Farthead of the Month and if chosen, you will do a 12 question Q&A that will be featured as a post on the blog! This is your way to get semi-famous or at least give you the ability to brag that you\u2019re on a shitty metal blog!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Making the honor roll this month is my best friend (and sometimes contributor) James.\u00a0 James and I have been friends for, well, a long fucking time and he was there long before The Great Southern Brainfart was even a thing.\u00a0 I bounced the name of this blog off of him and we even at one time co-hosted a podcast called The Heavy Metal Lunch.\u00a0 James is a kick ass dude, he hates Blaze Bayley, and loves metal that doesn’t suck!\u00a0 C’mon and get your award, son!

What’s your name and what the hell do you do with your life?<\/strong><\/p>\n

James \u2013 I play music and work in IT at a university.\u00a0 I tend to spend way too much time listening to music and arguing with the Brainfart about the bands he always champions.<\/p>\n

How did you discover the Great Southern Brainfart?<\/strong><\/p>\n

We met through a mutual friend and exchanged Iron Maiden bootlegs.\u00a0 We eventually started a podcast called The Heavy Metal Lunch where we\u2019d eat Baconators, drink Bushmills and make fun of Vince Neil and Lars Ulrich.<\/p>\n

What’s your favorite thing about the Great Southern Brainfart?<\/strong><\/p>\n

He\u2019s passionate about the music he listens to and writes about.\u00a0 I appreciate how honest he is whether it\u2019s love or hate.\u00a0 He throws himself in 100% and stands by what he writes.\u00a0 It may not seem like it, but he does a pretty good job of being open-minded and giving bands multiple chances.\u00a0 Esp, when it comes to bands I love\u2026HINT HINT.<\/p>\n

How did you first get into heavy metal?<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 1989 when I was 13 my best friend and brother were into Iron Maiden and listened to Live After Death every day.\u00a0 Literally.\u00a0 That summer we listed to LAD every single day.\u00a0 I started off being indifferent to them, but I soon came around and found out I really loved the music.\u00a0 From there we all got into Metallica, Anthrax, Ozzy, Megadeth, King Diamond, Dio, Scorpions\u2026basically anything with good guitar playing and good songs.<\/p>\n

What are your Top 5 metal bands?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Iron Maiden is the greatest band ever.\u00a0 Then\u2026Anthrax, 80\u2019s Metallica, Megadeth, Bruce Dickinson solo.<\/p>\n

What is currently your favorite metal album?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Christian Mistress\u2019 Possession.\u00a0 Brainfart and I caught them a couple years ago and they were an amazing live band.\u00a0 Black to Gold was the first track I heard from them and it blew me away.\u00a0 The rest of the album was just as awesome and it floors me every time I listen to it.\u00a0 They\u2019re definitely my favorite newer metal band.<\/p>\n

What is the least metal thing about you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I love KISS\u2019s disco phase.\u00a0 Great songs.<\/p>\n

If you could have dinner with any metal musician alive or dead, who would it be, what would you talk about, and what would you have?<\/strong><\/p>\n

As much as I\u2019d love say Frank Zappa, Cliff Burton or Randy Rhoads\u2026the real answer is Bruce Dickinson.\u00a0 He\u2019s probably the coolest motherfucker alive.\u00a0 Well, I think beer would be in order and would probably take up a good portion of the conversation.\u00a0 Wouldn\u2019t have to be Trooper Ale, I think we\u2019d try many different kinds and just get shitfaced.<\/p>\n

What is one metal album that everybody should own?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ozzy\/Randy Tribute.\u00a0 It\u2019s the fucking bible for guitar playing and I love how Randy reinterprets the Sabbath tunes and totally makes them his own.<\/p>\n

What is your favorite metal t-shirt and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019ll always have a soft spot for my Maiden Tailgunner shirt that I got at the No Prayer show (my very first concert\u2026Anthrax opened\u2026fucking amazing).\u00a0 It says \u201cshoot that FOKKER\u201d, but the idiot teachers in my high school got all scared because they thought it said \u201cfucker\u201d and wouldn\u2019t let me wear it.\u00a0 Didn\u2019t matter if I showed them the dictionary entry for Fokker.\u00a0 Then again, they also got on my case for wearing a Pantera shirt because it said \u201ccowboys from HELL\u201d.\u00a0 SMH<\/p>\n

In your opinion, who is the worst metal band out there?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

So many bad ones, but I don\u2019t listen to them so I couldn\u2019t care less.\u00a0 One who does piss me off is Sebastian Bach.\u00a0 He\u2019s generally obnoxious and instead of being gracious he talks shit to his fans and anyone that critiques him.\u00a0 If you\u2019re a professional musician and you get into internet arguments with fans and call them names, you\u2019re a fucking shitbag.\u00a0 Especially when you haven\u2019t been relevant for 25 years and you sound like shit live.\u00a0 He\u2019s lucky that anyone still remembers him, much less cares.<\/p>\n
