Atlanta has some of my least favorite bands on the planet. I don’t know what it is about this city that just hasn’t managed to churn out more than 3 or 4 bands tops that I can say that I really enjoy. This town is giant cauldron of death metal core sludge that has done very little for me. It’s gotten to the point where anytime an Atlanta based band reaches out to me to give their stuff a listen I find myself taking a deep breath and preparing myself for the worst. That is exactly what I did when I was about to give the band Muckraker a listen.

In all honesty, when I first started listening to Muckraker’s 2014 release Karmageddon I really didn’t know what to expect. As the first song, “Karmageddon” kicked in my first thought was, “Holy shit. This sounds like a lost GWAR song.” Song after song I found myself nodding my head, smiling, and at times laughing as songs like, “All Hail Mary”, “Warlord!” and “Red Vulture” blasted from my speakers. Are these songs purposely funny? I hope so because I found a lot of them downright hilarious but in the same way that GWARs songs are hilarious. Muckraker’s humor in their songwriting is very much clever as opposed to just downright stupid.

Karmageddon by MuckRaker

I’m sure these guys will grow tired of me saying this but, again, what I loved about this album so much was that it sounded like a lost GWAR album to me. Muckraker has managed to put together an entertainingly fun collection of metal songs and the deeper I got into this album the more I found myself really enjoying it. In a town where so many bands seem to be taking themselves so seriously (and not impressing me), it’s a much welcomed change to hear a band like Muckraker having some fun and doing it really well with talent to boot.

Muckraker – Karmageddon Release Date: June 16, 2014 Label: Independent I know I’m probably going to get a lot of shit for this but here it goes.
