Iron Maiden announced today that they will be releasing their new album, The Book of Souls, on September 4th.\u00a0 That’s the day before my birthday and I couldn’t think of a more epic fucking birthday party.\u00a0 Well, there was this that happened on September 5th 2013 but that’s a whole other story:<\/p>\n

Anyways, a new Iron Maiden album huh?\u00a0 While I am really excited about this I just hope they don’t fuck this up.\u00a0 The band knocked it out of the park with The Final Frontier so I feel like they proved for sure that their best days are still ahead of them as far as writing quality material.\u00a0 “The Book of Souls”\u00a0 is going to be 11 songs and running 92 minutes long. They are also boasting that this is the bands first ever double studio album.\u00a0 My only fear is that there will be some filler on it but in all honesty, I’m just fucking stoked about this album so I’m going to remain optimistic about it.<\/p>\n

You know what I’m NOT psyched about?\u00a0 This “stunning cover art” that was created by Mark Wilkinson:<\/p>\n

This artwork just screams “Derek Riggs!\u00a0 We need you!!!!!”\u00a0 I haven’t liked any of Iron Maiden’s artwork since they let Riggs go before the Fear of the Dark album.\u00a0 Eddie just isn’t the same since Riggs has been gone but as a die hard Maiden fan, I’ll let the music really do the talking, as always.\u00a0 Anyways, here’s some details regarding the new album.<\/p>\n

The Book Of Souls will be released gloally on 4th September through Parlophone Records (BMG in the U.S.A.). It was recorded in Paris with their longstanding producer Kevin \u201cCaveman\u201d Shirley in late 2014, with the finishing touches added earlier this year. However, the band decided to delay its release so that vocalist Bruce Dickinson, who was recently given the all-clear from a tumour, would have time to recuperate sufficiently to join in the preparations for the album\u2019s launch.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a broader split on the song-writing compared to previous Maiden records, with bassist and founder member Steve Harris contributing to seven of the tracks; 6 of them with Maiden\u2019s guitarists and one sole composition. This is also the first time since 1984\u2019s Powerslave that an IRON MAIDEN studio album also features two tracks written solely by Bruce Dickinson, one of which is the longest song Maiden has ever recorded! And also two Dickinson\/Smith collaborations.<\/p>\n

Steve comments,<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe approached this album in a different way to how we\u2019ve recorded previously. A lot of the songs were actually written while we were there in the studio and we rehearsed and recorded them straight away while they were still fresh, and I think that immediacy really shows in the songs, they have almost a live feel to them I think. I\u2019m very proud of The Book Of Souls, we all are, and we can\u2019t wait for our fans to hear it, and especially to take it out on the road next year!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re really excited about The Book Of Souls and had a fantastic time creating it. We started working on the album in late summer 2014 and recorded it at Guillame Tell Studios in Paris, where we\u2019d done the Brave New World album back in 2000 so the studio holds special memories for all of us. We were delighted to discover the same magical vibe is still alive and very much kicking there! So we immediately felt at home and the ideas just started flowing. By the time we\u2019d finished we all agreed that each track was such an integral part of the whole body of work that if it needed to be a double album, then double its going to be!\u201d<\/p>\n
