This EP floored me and totally did the job in that it had me wanting more. It laid a strong foundation and gave the world just a sample of what was to come. Crobot hit the road hard with bands such as Truckfighters, Kyng, and Scorpion Child putting on, without a doubt, some of the best live shows I saw this year boasting songs such as “Chupacabra”, “Cloud Spiller”, and “Wizards” just to name a few. While these songs were fucking amazing, how would translate to a recorded medium? Would they capture that energy, the excitement, the raw nasty groove that they put out live? Well, on Crobot’s Something Supernatural, everything that I love about Crobot was captured without fail or falter.

Listening to Crobot is like listening to all of my favorite bands at once. They are Black Sabbath, they are Mother Love Bone, they are the Black Crowes, and they are just flat out fucking awesome. Crobot manages to change gears so much on Something Supernatural yet they are able to maintain focus and not lose you with such drastic changes. “Fly on the Wall” has almost a kind of Rage Against the Machine (minus the suck) groove while “The Necromancer” almost sounds like it could’ve been the most bad ass Molly Hatchet song ever. “Skull of Geronimo”, “Chupacabra”, and “Nowhere to Hide” are all such strong songs but, in my opinion, “La Mano De Lucifer” and “Wizards” are the songs that really melted my face clean off my skull. Honestly, asking me to pick my favorite song off of Something Supernatural would be like asking David Lee Roth to pick his favorite groupie. A nearly impossible task and while one might be slightly better than another, they all fucking rock my face off.

The closing song “Queen of the Light” just took my breath away. I had never heard this song but this was a song that got quite a few re-listens from. What a beautifully melodic song. Brandon Yeagley is without a doubt one of my favorite vocalists out there today and his performance on this album just solidified that fact. His unbridled passion, soul, and just down right contagious energy has been captured perfectly on this album along with an amazing band of players laying the foundation for him to do his thing. It’s hard to believe that these guys are so young as they play like they’ve been doing this together for 20 years or more. There’s a kind of telepathic communication going on between the members of this band as they just always seem to be going in the same direction never stepping on each other.

Song for song, Something Supernatural exceeded any and all expectations I had for this one. So many times bands just lose so much of that energy on a recording but Something Supernatural captures every important essence of Crobot. If you hear this album and you love it this is what you’re going to get live. Something Supernatural is chock full of great songwriting, outstanding singing, amazing guitar playing, and a rhythm section that any band would be jealous of. This is Crobot ladies and gentlemen. This is a band that I cannot wait to see what they have in store for us. Something Supernatural is going to be a tough act to follow for not just other bands but for themselves. Yeah, it’s that fucking good.

Crobot – Something Super Natural Release Date: October 28, 2014 Wind-Up Records 2014 saw Crobot releasing a self-titled EP that featured a re-recorded version of “The Legend of the Spaceborn Killer” from their debut of the same title plus 3 new songs.
