Cory Smoot).\u00a0 In true GWAR fashion, the band marched forward with their heads held high in their commarade\u2019s honor and finished out their tour before heading back to Slave Pit Headquarters to regroup.\u00a0 GWAR fans rallied and banded together and fueled the band with undying support.\u00a0 The band announced that their new guitarist Pustulous Maximus would be filling the void allowing GWAR to continue their cosmic journey to world domination.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>This year GWAR will release their 13<sup>th<\/sup> album \u201cBattle Maximus\u201d and will be hitting the road soon in support of it.\u00a0 I was lucky enough to have the honor of talking with Oderus Urungus for the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> time in my now complete life.\u00a0 We talked about the new album, what we can expect from their upcoming tour, his thoughts on Miley Cyrus\u2019 awesome dancing and all else in between.\u00a0 As always, it was an awesome time catching up with Oderus and it\u2019s just reassuring to know that I am on his good side.\u00a0 Hopefully that side is not behind or in front of him.\u00a0 Read on slaves.\u00a0 Read on.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Hello?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hey!\u00a0 This is Oderus, sorry I missed your call!<\/p>\n<p>=============================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>I hope you\u2019re not calling me collect from Antarctica because if you are that would really suck.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>[laughs] No No No!\u00a0 The label pays for everything.<\/p>\n<p>=============================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s great to talk to you man.\u00a0 It\u2019s been a while.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes it has been a while.\u00a0 Today is GWAR interview day.\u00a0 We\u2019ve got about 12 to do today.\u00a0 You\u2019re #6 so we\u2019re about half way through so I\u2019m not completely fed up with doing these things just yet.<\/p>\n<p>=============================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>Well good.\u00a0 I\u2019m sure that will change after this one.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>[laughs] Ah, we shall see.<\/p>\n<p>=============================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>Last time we talked GWAR was here supporting \u201cBloody Pit of Horror\u201d at the Masquerade.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ahhh, the Masquerade.\u00a0 One of my favorite dumps.<\/p>\n<p>=============================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>Looks like you guys will be back here in October.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes, even with that large pole in the middle of the goddamn stage we\u2019ll be there rockin\u2019 out!<\/p>\n<p>=============================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>With GWAR playing so close to Halloween, I was curious if you guys maybe considered wearing costumes for the show?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Costumes? For GWAR to wear costumes we\u2019d have to dress up like human beings and I\u2019d have to wear a shirt and sneakers and shit like people in American concerned about?\u00a0 Miley Cyrus and her idiotic display of, \u201cLook, I\u2019m a fucking retard.\u201d\u00a0 There\u2019s no figuring it out.\u00a0 It will never make any texting you photos or anything lately.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>No, no Weiner texts to me.\u00a0 He doesn\u2019t want to have his compared against mine because then he would obviously be very upset and suffer in comparison.\u00a0 He definitely cannot measure up.<\/p>\n<p>=============================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>So Dragon Con just happened here in Atlanta and it\u2019s too bad that GWAR was not here to kill all of the hipster zombies that were in attendance.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We used to do Dragon Con all the time but finally we got sick to death of playing at 5am for people who had no idea of how to put on a rock n\u2019 roll show to begin with.\u00a0 Maybe one day we\u2019ll be back.<\/p>\n<p>=============================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>GWAR just did the GWAR-B-Q in Virginia.\u00a0 I wish I could\u2019ve made it this year but how <a href=\"https:\/\/southeastofheaven.com\/?attachment_id=11812\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11812\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-11812\" alt=\"gwarbq2013logo\" src=\"https:\/\/southeastofheaven.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/gwarbq2013logo-300x269.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"269\" \/><\/a>was it?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It was absolutely the greatest one yet.\u00a0 It was the biggest, baddest, most incredible one yet.\u00a0 We had the X-Cops reunion, we had Municipal Waste, we had the Spew Olympics, we had way more people than ever.\u00a0 It was great.\u00a0 We had GWAR Beer, GWAR-B-Q sauce.\u00a0 It was just a tremendous amount of fun and I believe it took me a week to recover from it.\u00a0 After it was over I just crawled into my coffin and laid there for a week.<\/p>\n<p>=============================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>I\u2019d love to go next year but if I do go can we cook up Nancy Grace?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>[laughs] Oh that would be great wouldn\u2019t it?\u00a0 I love that little handcuff necklace that she wears every now and then.\u00a0 That\u2019s pretty tasteful.<\/p>\n<p>=============================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you think she\u2019s trying to make a statement with that?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nah, I just think she\u2019s a disgusting parasite.\u00a0 Look at all the time they spent on that Jodi Arias idiot.\u00a0 People get killed all the time but hey, there\u2019s a hot broad with big tits.\u00a0 Let\u2019s watch this!<\/p>\n<p>=============================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>So you mentioned an X-Cops reunion at the GWAR-B-Q and I\u2019m a huge X-Cops fan.\u00a0 What are the chances of seeing a full reunion tour and maybe an album?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t know.\u00a0 I wouldn\u2019t mind doing another X-Cops record.\u00a0 Officer Al Depantsia has written a bunch of new songs.\u00a0 I\u2019m not really sure if we\u2019re about to go back on tour any time soon.\u00a0 We\u2019ll probably keep it pretty limited but I can see the X-Cops possibly doing a new album.\u00a0 I think there are a lot of people out there who would love to see another X-Cops album so I wouldn\u2019t mind it.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iS0Cq5oY08w\" height=\"315\" width=\"420\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/center><strong>This is an exciting time to be a GWAR fan.\u00a0 After the passing of Flattus Maximus it was really awesome to see the metal community pull together to support the band and his immediate family.\u00a0 It made me feel proud to be a fan of a band.\u00a0 When you saw that outpouring of love how did it make you feel?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Well, it made us feel very proud to have such awesome fans.\u00a0 They weren\u2019t going to let us fail or stop and they were going to support us every step of the way.\u00a0 They all came out and showed us how much they really love us and it really meant a lot to us.\u00a0 We couldn\u2019t have done it without their strength and we may have never made it through that period.\u00a0 There\u2019s not a day that goes by that we don\u2019t miss Flattus but somehow we\u2019ve made it through and Pustulous Maximus is settled in his new position and he\u2019s kicking fucking ass.\u00a0 Life goes on.<\/p>\n<p>=============================================<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/southeastofheaven.com\/?attachment_id=11813\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11813\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-11813\" alt=\"Pustulus-Maximus\" src=\"https:\/\/southeastofheaven.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Pustulus-Maximus-236x300.jpg\" width=\"236\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>What can you tell us about Pustulous Maximus and what can we all expect to see from him?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Well, he\u2019s a little bigger than Flattus.\u00a0 He\u2019s a little more obnoxious and meaner.\u00a0 He\u2019s a little more rowdy on stage and he breaks more stuff.\u00a0 His guitar playing is a big more vicious as well.\u00a0 He\u2019s a different player than Flattus.\u00a0 Flattus has a smoother shredding style whereas Pustulous is just all over the fucking place.\u00a0 He\u2019s capable of playing the smooth shit but yet he can play incredibly vicious as well.\u00a0 His sound has definitely taken GWAR into a new direction musically.\u00a0 I\u2019m not exactly sure what that direction is.\u00a0 Maybe even a little more like our old school thrash metal kind of sound.\u00a0 It definitely doesn\u2019t sound like Bloody Pit of Horror that\u2019s for sure.<\/p>\n<p>=============================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>Speaking of, I\u2019ve been listening to the new album Battle Maximus a good bit and I fucking love this album.\u00a0 It sounds more like the old school stuff than anything GWAR\u2019s done in years.\u00a0 Was that intentional or was this brought on by the new blood, pun intended?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>[laughs] No, it just kind of happened naturally.\u00a0 We just kind of let it kind of rally behind Pustulous\u2019 playing and we didn\u2019t try to make it go in any direction.\u00a0 We just let it kind of organically suggest itself.\u00a0 That\u2019s the way Pustulous sounds when he plays guitar so there for GWAR followed right along with him.\u00a0 It\u2019s got the sound of those old GWAR albums but it has the additional excellence of the fact that it sounds better.\u00a0 We\u2019ve been in the studio longer and we know what we\u2019re doing now.\u00a0 We\u2019ve got our own studio and we know exactly how to get the best sounds out of it.\u00a0 It\u2019s got that old school GWAR sound that everyone likes but it sounds better than all the old records.<\/p>\n<p>=============================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>As a long time GWAR fan, this is the album I really wanted to hear.\u00a0 It\u2019s just nice to know that GWAR isn\u2019t running out of any ideas.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>No, I don\u2019t think so.\u00a0 When you\u2019re undying, God-like beings from outer space you better not run out of ideas or eternity is going to get pretty fucking boring.<\/p>\n<p>=============================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>Every band has an album that fans identify with as a the album that best represents them.\u00a0 From your standpoint, what album do you feel best represents everything that GWAR is about?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Uh, you know, as strange as it\u2019s going to sound, I would say that it would have to be the latest album.\u00a0 It is the closest thing we have to what GWAR sounds like now and I believe it\u2019s got the best mix of all the different songwriting styles that GWAR has gone through. \u00a0I think it\u2019s been a long time since there\u2019s been a new GWAR album and this one is getting the most positive reaction than any GWAR album I\u2019ve ever seen.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/onKb4NWvC9U\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/center><strong>After 20+ years and 13 albums, how hard is it to make a set list for a tour?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Well, we try to get a balance in there.\u00a0 Even with 13 records you\u2019re not going to get one song from every album so you\u2019ve got to just pull your favorite songs from your favorite records and just mush them in with a whole bunch of killing and slaughtering.\u00a0 I mean, the set lists just kind of write themselves after a while.<\/p>\n<p>=============================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is there a particular song that rarely or never has made it to the live front that you wish would do so?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are so many songs that we\u2019ve done I can\u2019t even remember \u00bd of them anymore.\u00a0 You know, I\u2019d sure love to see \u201cPreschool Prostitute\u201d come back.\u00a0 \u201cJe M\u2019appelle Jaques Cousteau\u201d would be awesome.\u00a0 \u201cLet\u2019s Blame the Light Man.\u201d\u00a0 There are so many fucking GWAR songs.\u00a0 Fuck man, I don\u2019t know [laughs].<\/p>\n<p>=============================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>Looking back on GWAR\u2019s vast catalog is there anything you look at and say, \u201cI wish we would\u2019ve done that differently?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nah, I wouldn\u2019t change a fucking thing.\u00a0 If you change anything about GWAR you might ruin something that was incredibly perfect.\u00a0 I\u2019m not really how GWAR started to begin with but I do know that it\u2019s hard to change or mess around with it very much.\u00a0 You could ruin that balance that made it so great to begin with.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been completely satisfied with everything we\u2019ve done.\u00a0 I wouldn\u2019t change a Goddamn thing.<\/p>\n<p>=============================================<\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" id=\"irc_mi\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/ecx.images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/61Adl24XjLL.jpg\" width=\"227\" height=\"227\" \/>So many bands have those kind of regrets so I have to say I love that you wouldn\u2019t change a thing.\u00a0 There\u2019s nothing worse than hearing a band answer that question and have them say they wanted to change something that I really loved about that band.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Exactly.\u00a0 We wouldn\u2019t change a fucking thing man [laughs].\u00a0 A lot of people seem to think that we hate our more silly records like We Kill Everything.\u00a0 We don\u2019t hate those records.\u00a0 They\u2019re just records that we made at that point in time and we\u2019re a completely different sounding band in this time.<\/p>\n<p>=============================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>With GWAR\u2019s upcoming tour, what can we expect to see and who can we expect to see being completely annihilated?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The monster from the future this year is the Hideous Mr. Perfect who is getting ready to come back through time and steal from GWAR the secret for eternal life.\u00a0 Basically, he\u2019s coming through time to chop off my balls and we\u2019re not going to have that.\u00a0 Of course he has all kinds of super power creatures that hang out with him and of course there will be the regular selection of idiotic celebrities, political figures, and religious leaders that will also get their fucking asses kicked.<\/p>\n<p>=============================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>Just another GWAR show!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>[laughs] Just another GWAR show.\u00a0 Sickening metallic blood rock, sickening monsters beating the shit out of each other and, oh I don\u2019t know, Justin Bieber being crucified?<\/p>\n<p>=============================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>GWAR not too long ago released a great cover of Alice Cooper\u2019s \u201cSchool\u2019s Out.\u201d\u00a0 Are there any future covers that we can look forward to hearing GWAR unleash on us?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Right now we are working on a cover of \u201cGet Out of My Dreams, Get Into My Car\u201d by Billy Ocean for the AV Club.\u00a0 We did Kansas\u2019 \u201cCarry on My Wayward Son\u201d last year so we\u2019re doing this one this year.\u00a0 Matter of fact, I wouldn\u2019t be surprised if you see an entire GWAR covers album at some point.<\/p>\n<p>=============================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>Does GWAR have any plans to release a DVD that will be beaten out of a Grammy by Annie Lenox?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>[laughs] Oh fuck man.\u00a0 Yeah, we\u2019re going to do some more video stuff.\u00a0 We\u2019ve got a new video for \u201cMadness at the Core of Time.\u201d\u00a0 We\u2019ll have a video coming out from the GWAR-B-Q that we just did.\u00a0 Yeah, there are all kinds of things going but as far as beating Annie Lenox, I\u2019d rather just beat her with a club than let the Grammy\u2019s do that.<\/p>\n<p>=============================================<\/p>\n<p><strong>Finally, what is one metal album that nobody should go without owning?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Slayer\u2019s \u201cReign in Blood.\u201d\u00a0 That one or the first Black Sabbath album.\u00a0 One of those two.\u00a0 Or maybe Motorhead\u2019s \u201cNo Sleep till Hammersmith.\u201d\u00a0 They\u2019re all
