From the album opening \u201cKing\u2019s Highway\u201d to the haunting psychedelic beauty closing track \u201cRed Blood (The River Flows)\u201d, it\u2019s pretty evident that we\u2019ve been given a great gift.\u00a0 Scorpion Child has given us a debut album that is a platter of no bullshit, no frills 70\u2019s style guitar and vocal driven rock n\u2019 roll and for that I thank them.\u00a0 Ok, let\u2019s just get this out of the way now.\u00a0 You\u2019re going to say one of five things when you hear this band.\u00a0 1. They sound like Led Zeppelin.\u00a0 2. They sound like Blind Melon.\u00a0 3.\u00a0 They sound like a heavier version of Blind Melon teetering more on the psychedelic hard rock side of the spectrum.\u00a0 4. These guys fucking suck.\u00a0 Kill it with fire.\u00a0 5. These guys have taken the sound of more modern alternative acts like Soundgarden and Blind Melon and successfully married them with a healthy dose of those bands influences such as Black Sabbath, Captain Beyond, a Led Zeppelin.\u00a0 Ok, that last one was pretty fucking long winded but that\u2019s what I would say at least.<\/p>\n

So you may be saying to yourself, \u201cBut Brainfart.\u00a0 How can Scorpion Child be playing like Soundgarden and Blind Melon at the same time as playing like Sabbath and Zeppelin and Capt. Beyond?\u00a0 Isn\u2019t that like dividing by \u201c0\u201d?\u00a0 Well, I\u2019m glad you asked.\u00a0 What I mean about this is that Scorpion Child has the sonic sound of a more modern version of those classic bands.\u00a0 In a sense, you could say, \u201cAre they sounding like the classics or are they sounding like the more modern alternative\/grunge bands inspired by those classic bands?\u00a0 Sheesh, this is giving me a headache. Ok, here\u2019s the deal.\u00a0 Scorpion Child kicks ass. Plain and simple.<\/p>\n

Much like the reason why I fell in love with Blind Melon, I\u2019ve fallen in love with Scorpion Child because they captured the cosmic energy, vibe, and timeless sound of bands that I fell in love with as a kid.\u00a0 In some ways, I would maybe even say that Scorpion Child very well could be leading this 3rd<\/sup> cycle of music making its rounds once again to save us all from over processed, over produced, and over thought heavy metal\/hard rock music.\u00a0 It\u2019s so refreshing to hear a band priding itself on the value of solid musicianship and songwriting.\u00a0 It\u2019s also great to hear a singer not afraid to just lay it all out on the people not giving a fuck about what anyone thinks or how perfect or imperfect it may be.\u00a0 This attitude alone makes me want to hear more and from start to finish this album flat out delivers.<\/p>\n

Scorpion Child\u2019s debut is without a doubt one of the most exciting albums I have heard this year and has set this band very deserving in the top tier of one of my new favorite bands.\u00a0 If you love rock n\u2019 roll, you\u2019ll love Scorpion Child.\u00a0 After all, that is what they are.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
