""One Hour of Metal is where I either put my iTunes on shuffle or tune into a metal internet radio station and for one hour I document what I hear. The good, the bad and the downright awful are always represented with honesty in this segment. Some hours are better than others as you will see in this series. So let’s get started shall we?

This time around I tuned into Hard Rock Heaven for an hour’s worth of glam/hair metal. I really hate the term “hair metal” but hey, it’s not my fault that this is the genre it’s not referred to. Either way, much like any other genre of metal, it’s got some good, some bad, and some downright awful. I decided it was time for a little something different so for today, welcome to One Hour of Metal: The Hair Addition.

Whitesnake- Standing in the Shadow of Love

Ok. Not a bad way to start things off. It’s not one of my favorite Whitesnake albums but this is a great tune nonetheless. It’s such a shame that David Coverdale’s voice is blown beyond all recognition. Now that it’s playing on and on, I’m finding that I dig it more than I did before. This is a pretty cool jam.

Quiet Riot – Sign of the Times

I love this song. Quiet Riot was such a cool band. I don’t care how much of a dick Kevin DuBrow may have been back in the day but this motherfucker could sing his ass off. I really dug the Condition Critical album. It wasn’t the success that the debut Metal Health was but this was a great song from a really great album. This reminds me that I don’t listen to nearly enough Quiet Riot.

Scorpions – Can’t Live Without You

Wow. This has to be the worst. For a band who had some really pretty cool songs, this one is beyond lame. Worst opening riff and this has to be one of thee worst choruses of all time. I wish I could fast forward radio. Oh well, time to get a bowl of cereal.

Cinderella – If You Don’t Like It

Well. Leave it to a “hair metal” radio station to play the ONE FUCKING SONG by Cinderella that I can’t stand. I mean, in all honesty, it’s not the worst song I’ve ever heard but by Cinderella standards, it sounds like they were totally forced to write this song. Uggh… My cereal needs more milk. Brb.

Ratt – One Step Away

Ya know, I love me some Ratt but this song just doesn’t do it for me. I couldn’t even tell you what album its off of but in all honesty, it doesn’t suck. I wouldn’t skip this song if I could but I would probably like chat with Jammin’ Jaymz online or like, pay some bills as it just played in the background. Nothing earth shattering here but at the same time its not unbearable.

Motley Crue – You’re All I Need

HA. HAHA! HAHAHA! Oh man. Ok. Ummm, yeah this sucks.

Journey – Be Good To Yourself

Um, Beavis. I thought you called the internet radio station and told them to quit playing this crap.

Lion – Powerlove

Now I remember why I never listened to Lion back in the day. Because these guys suck. Oh my god this is terrible. “Powerlove creepin’ up on you.” Umm, wow. These guys make Warrant sound heavy. Yeah. This shit sucks.

Kiss – Hell or High Water

The 80’s really weren’t all that kind to KISS. Hearing them try to keep up with the trend of being a modern glam metal band was kind of painful. Now don’t get me wrong. They had some pretty cool moments but this is definitely not one of them. Oh Gene Gene Gene… what were you thinking?

Treat – Home Is Where Your Heart Is

Um, I really don’t know who the fuck Treat is/was. I can totally see why I never heard of them. This could’ve been any of a zillion faceless 80’s/90’s glam/hair bands. I mean, the guy can sing, the song is catchy and there’s those cute little “gang style” backing vocals and chunky riffs. It’s really well produced and, oh hell. It’s so forgettable I had to look 4 lines up just so see who this was again. Oh well. Doesn’t really suck but it’s nothing memorable.

McQueen Street – Going Back To Mexico

I remember hearing this name back in the day and never did much with it but ya know what? This song is kinda fun. It’s kind of like a redneck version of W.A.S.P. The singer can sing his ass of and he has a pretty unique voice. Matter of fact, it kind of sounds like Jackyl could’ve ripped these guys off 100% for their schtick. Some nice double bass drumming, great singing, and a total hell raising vibe to it. I’m digging this one. I might have to check these cats out.

Bonfire – Sword and Stone

I totally remember this song and I don’t remember where from. I feel like it was on a soundtrack from one of those early 90’s flicks. Wayne’s World maybe? Bill & Ted? Shocker! That’s right. It was on the same one that Megadeth had that crappy cover of “No More Mr. Nice Guy.” Anyways, this is a cool song. Very Accept meets Kiss sounding. I remember digging this song a good bit back in the day. I’ll have to look some more up on these characters. Man… Shocker. That movie fucking sucked.

Trouble Tribe – One By One

With a name like Trouble Tribe, you can rest assure that they sound just how you would think they would. They suck. Much like that one band a few songs up, they are totally forgettable and they have one of the weakest singers I have ever heard. These guys aren’t worth a shit. Man, I’m glad this is almost over.

Europe – Never Say Die

So I don’t hate Europe and I don’t love them either. I mean, I can’t stand “The Final Countdown” but they had some pretty cool songs. I surprisingly dig this song. It’s got a kind of mid 80’s Whitesnake vibe to it with some nice Hammond organ and Joey Tempest can sing like a mofo. I mean, this doesn’t have me running off to go jam some Europe or anything. This just reminds me that they were totally capable of having some pretty cool tunes. Not a bad song at all chaps.

Contraband – If This Is Love

I totally remember Contraband. It was a “not so super”group made up of members of Ratt, Shark Island (yeah, who?), Vixen, LA Guns, and Michael Schenker on guitar. The funny thing is that this album was light years better than anything their own respective bands ever put out (except for RATT who was awesome). This song is a kinda ballad but I really dig that dude’s voice and the really cool backing vocals. This was a decent enough song and a great way to close out my very first ONE HOUR OF METAL: THE AQUANET EDITION. Let’s do this again sometime.
