In 2000, wrestler Chris Jericho joined the band as lead vocalist and they started doing show playing cover songs and just being silly. In 2003 they dropped the shtick and hoped to become a serious band. Nine years later, Fozzy has released their latest album Sin and Bones and after listening to this album, it’s plain to see that nothing has changed; they’re still a joke band. The opening song “Spider in my Mouth” immediately told me that this was going to be another platter of generic, forgettable, modern hard rock/metal ala Avenged Sevenfold. It’s kind of funny that I would compare them to those clowns because 2nd song “Sandpaper” features none other than the king of the mall metal douchebags himself, M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold.

I really gave Fozzy the benefit of the doubt and listened to this album beginning to end. With its annoying power ballads with heavy breakdowns and slick, over produced mall metal, it just became more and more annoying to listen. “Blood Happens” is probably one of the funniest things to hear. You have WWE wrestler Chris Jericho singing with his friendly little rock voice and then Stuck Mojo guitarist Rich Ward with his “I’m a bad ass metal dude” death vocals to try and add some heavy relevance to this song. The only think it did for me was making me laugh at how ridiculous it sounds.

In all honesty, Fozzy isn’t a terrible band; they just have terrible songs. As a matter of fact they can play their instruments, and Chris Jericho even has a pretty decent rock voice (even if it is chock full of autotune). The songs themselves are just nothing but uninspired weaksauce. It’s radio friendly, Hot Topic metal music. This is not the kind of music I would picture any of my friends who are into real heavy metal music listening to. If you like your metal music radio friendly, radio festival ready and completely neutered, than you will probably like Fozzy and more power to you. If you’re looking for some real, authentic heavy metal music played with even an ounce of integrity, just keep on walking. You won’t find it here.

Fozzy – Sin and Bones Release Date: August 14, 2012 Highlights: NONE In 1999, Fozzy started out as a joke band of sorts called “Fozzy Osbourne” formed by Stuck Mojo guitarist Rich Ward.
